Guatemala is the Heartland of the Maya
Culture. The Ancient Archaeological Sites of the Maya abound
throughout the country. There are Olmec sites, pre-classic
sites and Late classic sites. After 900AD most of the Maya
had abandoned and this culture continued in the post-classic
until the Spanish conquest in the Yucatan Peninsula. The Maya
culture continued and still exists yet in a more socialized
system where the political system of pyramids and kings and
queens does not exist.
